Museum of the Mountain West

The Museum of the Mountain West is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts associated with the history of the west. This museum resulted from the lifelong obsession of Richard E. Fike who collected historic western keepsakes. It is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 9.30am to 4.00pm. The museum showcases a series of reconstructions of stores and shops of an old town that dates back to the 1800s. Some of the exhibits include cash stores, school, hotel, medical practices, residence, a saloon, and railroad depot.

Ute Trail

In the past, the Ute and Arapaho Indians followed a specific scenic trail when moving from their summer locations in the mountains to stay in the warmer low-lying valleys during winter. Today, outdoor lovers can follow these footsteps while exploring the Ute Trail in Montrose. This four-mile trail is easy and ideal for families that want to enjoy wonderful views of the alpine tundra. The area has wild flowers and a selection of wildlife like coyotes, elk, and different raptors.

Montrose Water Sport Park

The Montrose Water Sport Park is located in Riverbottom Park in a 1,000-foot stretch of the river. The facility offers a day of fun for water lovers of all abilities and ages. The park is made up of six drop structures that are perfect for a leisurely family kayak. There is also a beach area and wading section, and a terraced spectator area for those who do not want to get wet. Apart from having lots of fun in the river, people can also enjoy hiking or walking along the networked trails, disc golf, picnicking, ball fields, and a beautiful playground for the younger visitors.

 Montrose Farmers Market

The Montrose Farmer’s Market is open to all visitors who want to meet the local producers and farmers at the Saturday Farmer’s Market. During peak summer season, people can buy a large selection of locally growth, fresh fruits and vegetable, while most of the time the market has a variety of home-made goodies like eggs, pickles, jams, honey, cheeses, freshly baked pies, and locally raised poultry and meats. You can also buy home-made soaps, portions, lotions, and local artisan crafts. The market is open all year round and it holds a special X-mas Market in November and December.

Covered Bridge Ranch is a 300-acre family-owned wildlife refuge and tree farm that hosts several family events every year. The ranch is located at the base of the San Juan Mountains close to Montrose.
